Some people don't realize that not all Civil War collectibles are out of reach financially. You can still find some great items at very affordable prices, here is a report on some Civil War pieces that closed recently on eBay and what they sold for.
I thought this watch fob with a cannon on it was very reasonable at $15.50. If I had found it before the auction closed, I'd have bid on it myself.
As the following description indicates this needed a little work, but still for $12.50 I think it was a great deal, and the wear authenticates that it saw service.
This is a fine example of an early War Artillery button, non-dug with "Scovills.Waterbury" backmark. It has 95%+ gilt on the face, back was not plated. The back is loose but could easily be repaired with a drop of glue. I'll leave that to the buyer as I do not like to sell repaired relics. Shank is bent but completely intact. This is the 15mm size for artillery shell jacket. Eagle A with extruded shield and small A. Since these were pre-War manufacture, could have been US or CS used.
Some of the best buys still found in the Civll War collectible genre are in the area of paper. This 1865 pension went for $43.99, but I've sold many CW soldier receipts and payments for $10 and under.
One thing is for sure, this is an area of collecting that's pretty safe for investors that know how to buy right. Early collectibles from important historical events will only go up in value. On the other hand, those Beanie Babies, Cabbage Patch Dolls and Franklin Mint mass produced collectibles, well...
