These and other great art buys are still out there
Here what I consider the top 5 collectibles to invest in right now, there is something on the list that will fit in everyone's budget.
Good American paintings by listed artists. There are still quite a few buys to be had in this field, for example, you can get a Samuel H. Jepperson and a Leonard Reedy for under $500.
Vintage American Art pottery. Names like Van Briggle, Grueby, Roseville, Newcomb, Dedham and others have never faded since they came into popularity.
US coins: Especially those silver & gold. They are considered one of the best hedges against inflation. Be warned that this market fluctuates FAST so make sure your buying right.
Antique Silverplate Flatware: This is the only one on this list that up until recently was not a strong seller. Times have changed and it looks like some of this beautiful metalwork is finally getting it's due. Look for beautiful patterns by well known names such as Rogers, Gorham, S Kirk. Note that pieces which have been monogrammed sell for much less than those which aren't, if they'll sell at all. Items with the silverplate badly worn don't do well. Serving pieces command a premium.
Antique Postcards: Collectors are especially looking for cards that depict small town America, Black Americana, trains, trolleys, almost anything out of the unusual. Stay away from mass produced cards that were produced for tourists.
