These days it seem like everyone is looking to either make a living or make some extra cash by selling on eBay, but what to sell? There are product research sites that will tell you what the new hot items are and and what eBay shoppers are looking for. The problem with these sites, is that often by the time you jump on the bandwagon, the item is either impossible to get at an affordable price to resell, or the demand is for the item is already on the way down.
That's why I prefer to sell classic collectibles whenever possible. Here are 5 tried and true items that are usually always in demand.
Coins: As many markets go down, coins go up. I like U.S. silver and gold coins. Besides selling well, they are easy and inexpensive to ship.
Postcards: Stay away from the big city tourist type postcards. Collectors are mainly looking for small town America postcards before 1950. There are still plenty of them around and again, they're easy to ship.
Antique & vintage tools: Especially old carpentry and woodworking tools such as early planes, wood carving tools etc. Flat rate USPS Priority Shipping boxes makes many of these very affordable to ship. I shipped out two vices today that must have come close to 30lbs! The shipping cost was only $9.30 for 2-3 day Priority shipping. Since many people don't realize the flat rate shipping benefit here, the selling market often undervalues these items thinking they are too heavy to be something that will sell well on eBay. The end result is you can often pick them up at very reasonable prices. Sshhh, don't tell anyone!
Old Halloween items: Just about anything in a Halloween item before 1970 is red hot and has been for years.
Vintage & antique costume jewelry: As hard as new hand made custom jewelry is to sell, vintage and antique costume jewelry is that easy. Look for names like Monet, Trifari and Haskell, stay away from anything made by Avon and Sarah Coventry.
One of the best ways to keep yourself in good stock is to make some connections with dealers who will wholesale in larger lots. There is always someone who will sell in bulk, leaving room for another seller to make money. When you find such a source, cultivate it and learn as much as you can for this is a well you can go back to over and over.
Feel free to leave questions in the comment section, I'll get back to you asap.
Thanks for reading and good luck. AW
