Robert asks:
I have this piece of furniture, how old is it and what's it worth?
AW says: Thats a nice solid Oak Victorian era combination unit of a very good quality. I like that it has the original hardware and seems to have the original finish as well. It's also an uncommon unit as opposed to most you see of this era.
Date range: 1890s-1910s
Retail value: $1600-$2,300
(top price)
Wholesale value: $800-$1200
(The midrange price you could expect to achieve at a well advertised live auction. The price that is most often realized)
Quick sale value: $500
The price your likely to get if you have to sell your item immediately and your prospective customer is aware of this.
Common trade terminology: Victorian Combination Oak Unit, Solid Oak.
Nicknames or slang terms: Some may call this Eastlake style, but it's not really pure Eastlake form, it's actually transitional, emerging from Eastlake style of the Victorian era. This doesn't affect the value however, that's just an identification note.
Care and storage tips: Don't refinish it. A note on display: You have a wonderful Oak paneled wall that this is against, but this gets lost with it being Golden Oak against a Golden Oak background, if you put this against a dark background it will stun. If you were going to use good pictures let's say to sell it, you would definitely want to use a dark background.
