1) It's the future: heck, it's the now. The world of eCommerce is not going away, ever. We know that now.
2) Skills you can use anywhere: whether or not you stick with it, you'll learn 2 valuable set of skills. First the basics of trading, second, how and why to keep up with Internet technology.
3) You'll have the biggest support system in the world. There are mentors, gurus, blogs and podcasts dedicated to helping people succeed in selling online.
4) You can do it at your convenience.
5) Overhead is relatively low. Many sites are free to sell on, so start up cost can be zero! You can literally be in competition with a brick and mortar store in five minutes. Compare that to your neighbor who has to pay for a building, heat, employees and all the other responsibilities that comes with a brick and mortar store.
6) Expansion: If you do have a brick and mortar store, you will expand your business exponentially with a good online sales and branding campaign.
7) You can involve your family. If you have children it's a great way to teach them about business and financial responsibility.
8) Simplify and de-clutter your life. These days everyone is stressing about so many things. Much of what we stress about is due to all the "things" we own. When you sell off your un-wanted items you'll get renewed sense of what you really need.
9) Diversity: There are hundreds of places to sell, from the old online pioneer eBay, to the latest and greatest Bonanzle, a "realtime" selling platform, there is a site for every taste. Most experienced sellers are now selling multi-platform.
10) Total control over you business: Don't like the way things are going? You can tweak details and policy to your liking, you have absolute control over your situation as an online merchant. That alone is worth the price of admission.
Good Luck and thanks for reading.
