Most of the time I love my job especially the mystery, history and  treasure hunt part of it. Take for example the wonderful estate I just contracted to sell the contents of from North Adams MA.

Technically it's a revocable trust rather than an estate, as the head of the family has not passed away, but rather has turned over the contents to be sold for the trustees.

I'll be auctioning the contents on eBay
This home is full of period antiques

The woman who owns the content's of the home is  Audrey Sweeney, and the job came through her son, John who is acting as the agent of the trust.

Now Audry was the President of the North Adams MA Historical Society so this is not a lightweight job. The family has agreed to have me put up most of the items up on eBay, at auction, without reserve!

I will be starting the first round of auctions on Sunday evening at 9PM EST. They'll all be 7 day auctions. I'll post updates here as well.

Below is an abbreviated step-by-step of the liquidation process.

1) Making the cut:

Lots of period smalls
Lots of period smalls

After I've made the proposal and the contractual agreement has been worked out, the first thing I do is make the cut. This is what I call the selection process where I separate what I want to take on consignment and what I'll leave behind. In this case it was a bit of a tough call. Because the average item quality is very good, I have a hard time deciding what to leave behind. I don't have time to list everything.

Divide and conquer:

From Majolica to Fiesta Ware

2) I section off all of the items that have made the cut into different pockets in the house and inventory them. It's not feasible to list every single item on the inventory sheet, so I enter the most important ones and enter the rest as "lots" on the inventory sheets. I place each inventory sheet next to it's pile for the consignor to check.

3) Pack it up

Packing and loading is the last phase in this part of the job the job. Seeing how much of the lot is good quality sterling, porcelain and glassware, I make sure to have plenty of boxes and bubble wrap on hand.

Want to see more of what was in this treasure trove? Check back soon. I'll show you some of the wonderful antiques I'll be listing without reserve. I'll also walk you through the listing and selling part of things as I get this lot up on eBay.
