Vermont's scenery among best in New England

Vermont is classic New England with its rolling green hills, unrivaled fall foliage and pristine winter white landscapes. From the Northeast Kingdom up north to the slopes of Mount Snow in southern Vermont, the Green Mountain State is a refuge from the hustle and bustle of big city life.

If you're dreaming of a relaxing respite, a day trip or an overnight stay in Southern Vermont is an excellent choice. One of the most scenic and accessible drives is Route 9 along the Molly Stark Trail, from Brattleboro to Bennington.Brattleboro is a lively little town with a big city ambience, located in Windham County and accessible from highway I-91, Route 9, and Route 5. There are many nooks and crannies to explore. Spend an hour or two wandering among the curio shops, bookstores and restaurants.

The art deco style Latchis Hotel and Theatre  is located right in the middle of town, so if you do decide to extend your day trip into an overnight jaunt, this may be a good place to catch a movie along with a good night's rest. Other Brattleboro area activities and attractions include the Brattleboro Museum and Art Center, The Adams Grist Mill Museum , The Berkshire Botanical Gardens and Rudyard Kipling's Naulakha.

Naulakha, the former home of writer Rudyard Kipling, is located just outside of Brattleboro in Dummerston, Vermont. Naulakha is what is  called a "Shingle Style" home and borders a meadow and a nearby hillside, with views of mountains and valleys. A visit to Naulkaha is a look into Kipling's fabled past.Rudyard Kipling, lived in Vermont during the years 1892-1896. According to information from the National Register, Kipling's Naulakha estate is the only house ever built by Kipling. It is believed to be much as it was when he left it. Visitors can see many of the writer's treasures along with the rooms where he wrote the "Jungle Books."

Once you've spent some time exploring Brattleboro area, it's time to take a scenic drive along Route 9, also called the Molly Stark Trail.  In total, the drive takes about two hours, from the New Hampshire border in the East to the New York border west of Bennington. If you begin the drive in Brattleboro, the drive will be about a half hour shorter.
