Last week, a controversial commercial by CatholicVote.org was broadcast throughout the Baltimore area during the hit program American Idol. The commercial, “Life: Imagine the Potential,” contained a pro-life message emphasizing adoption as a positive experience for many celebrities, leaders, and important people.

Baltimore native Babe Ruth was mentioned in the commercial due to his adoption by Catholic missionaries at the former St. Mary’s Industrial School for Boys (now The Cardinal Gibbons School).

Concerning the commercial, President of CatholicVote.org Brian Burch said, “We hope that by highlighting the common thread between people like Babe Ruth, John Lennon, and Faith Hill that Americans will reflect on the enormous gift of every human life.”

CatholicVote.org previously aired a similar commercial on Black Entertainment Television during President Obama’s inauguration day. The commercial, which highlighted Obama’s childhood, was rejected by NBC and CNN for broadcast during the Super Bowl and State of the Union Address.
