I just met with one of the sisters of the fabulous Seattle-based OEco Textiles and learned A LOT about the fabulous and not so fabulous world of textile creation.  Patty and Leigh Anne spent 5 years prior to launching OEco in researching the textile industry and I have to say, these ladies know their stuff!

Did you know...

  • The fabric industry is one of the leading pollutors of our water resources?
  • You can have organic yarn and still end up with non-organic fabric?
  • The process to get yarn to textile is 15 steps and includes as many as 2,000 chemicals?  TWO THOUSAND!!
  • Fabric can contain particles of lead that slough off and into the air you breathe?

This is just the tip of the textile iceberg that is mowing us over in our health and environment.  Good news is these sisters are here to help save us!  Their fabrics are absolutely beautiful and appealing for both men and women.

To learn more and find out where you can get their fabrics, check out their site.  In addition, you can hear them speak at  the One Earth, One Design event series on the textile industry on July 26.  RSVP is requested.
