I can't be the only in disbelief that it's March!  Alas, with that in mind, St. Patrick's Day is just around the corner.  Here are some great tips on celebrating a greener for this fine holiday.

From Celebrate Green

  • Cut shamrock shapes (or use a shamrock paper punch) from recycled green paper to make cards and decorations

My spin #1 - Shamrock Garlands

  1. Cut shamrock shapes from fabric remnants - they don't have to be St. Patrick Day themed fabrics.  Just pick some you like.  Maybe you have an item that is deemed irrepairable but you love the fabric pattern.  Use that!
  2. Glue them front and back to a shamrock cardstock cutout, punch a hole in the top and thread a ribbon, wire or twine through to create a shamrock garland!

My spin #2 - Shamrock Foldout Paper Chain

  1. Fold your paper into multiple folds, just like you learned in kindergarten, and cut out your shape - don't forget to leave part of the folded edge on one side in tact so it folds out in a chain.
  2. Tape or thread multiple chains together to create a garland

  • Go hunting for shamrocks (clover) in nearby fields. If you find some, bring them home, flatten between books, then glue on cards for next year.
  • If it's a rainy March 17, watch an inspiring Irish family movie together.
  • If you're celebrating by imbibing, drink local--local beers in local establishments or seek out green breweries that embrace sustainable practices.
  • If you're buying beer locally and are offered a choice, buy glass bottles instead of aluminum. If your beer of choice comes from far away, however, metal cans are lighter and therefore cause less of an environmental impact while making their way to you.
