As of March 30, recycling and composting in Seattle is going to be even better!

  • Weekly food and yard waste pick up for single family households
  • Meat, fish and dairy scraps allowed in food and yard waste cart
  • More food and yard waste cart options
  • More recycling of paper, plastic and metal items
  • NO MORE separarting glass and the other stuff - all goes in ONE bin!

Did you know?
ONE-THIRD of residential garbage consists of FOOD WASTE amounting to around 45,000 tons!

Contrary to what you might believe, it does NOT biodegrade in the landfills, which is why we need to compost it (break it down into healthy soil).  Not only do we save the planet from the methane produced by food in landfills, the end result is healthy soil for plants and gardens.  And, more plants contribute to air quality, rather than pollute it!

Do you know how great we have it in Seattle here with all these green options?  There are so many cities still living in the dark ages, so to speak.  Yup, we have it pretty darn good here!

For more info: Learn more about composting and what you can compost at Seattle Public Utilties.  You can also contact independent services such as Cedar Grove composting for your compost AND recycling needs!
