It may have hit its peak in the mid to late 90s with Michael Flatley at the helm, but Lord of the Dance is still touring the world to excited fans.
The celebration of Ireland’s dance culture was turned into a traveling production by Irish-American dancer Michael Flatley with his debut in Riverdance. When Flatley wanted the show to play to larger audiences he dreamt up Lord of the Dance, which is a mythical Irish folklore depicting good and evil with the Lord of Light, also known as Lord of the Dance, fighting against the evil Lord of Darkness, Don Dorcha.
Today Lord of the Dance continues to tour the world, but without Flatley as the lead. Though he still creates, produces and directs the productions, he is performing in new Celtic dancing shows elsewhere. The latest incarnation of dancing comes to The Paramount Theatre on Saturday, November 7 at 2pm and 8pm. Tickets range from $20 to $57.
For those who missed the first go-around, Michael Flatley’s Lord of the Dance is a mesmerizing display of Celtic dancing that redefines talent and hard work. The unbelievable strength and grace possessed by each dancer as they create a story using just their legs is a skilled and tightly honed performance just about anyone could enjoy.
