Rumors are flying that Steven Tyler is leaving Aerosmith. Even more shocking is the thought that the band thinks it could possibly go on without him.

According to Classic Rock Magazine, Tyler said, "I don't know what I'm doing yet, but it's definitely going to be something Steven Tyler: working on the brand of myself -- Brand Tyler."

Lead guitarist Joe Perry recently released a solo album "Have Guitar, Will Travel" and is scheduled to appear at Caesar's Windsor on Thursday, November 19. Tickets start at only $25.  During a recent interview Perry indicated that the band was going to take a break, and word has it that all of the members except Tyler were planning to meet to discuss future plans. Could a Tyler-less Aerosmith ever work? I think not.

Guitarist Brad Whitford agrees, but is keeping his options open. “Nobody could replace Steven or imitate him – he’s one of a kind. But if somebody was willing to do it and the chemistry was right, why not?”

Tyler, like Rod Stewart without Faces or Jeff Beck, is the show. His solo career would probably thrive, even if he doesn't have the same chemistry with the new band as he did with his old one. The other members of Aerosmith would probably be able to create great music with a new singer (and even do classic Aerosmith stuff in their live show), but make it new band with a new name (sorry Foo Fighters is taken). Maybe Arrowsmith?

Aerosmith without Steven Tyler is not Aerosmith.
