Cardio Vs. Resistance: Importance of Working out the Legs

A few things I want to point out to you guys at the gym.  First, work out your legs!!!! Squat til' ya puke... or at least a few sets.  Second, weights first, cardio second!!  The bigger the muscle you work out, the more anabolic hormones your body releases. You want big arms? They will be bigger if they are getting some of the hormone release from your legs!  The best workout period are squats, no wimpy squats either, a** to ankles everyone!  You want to give yourself about 3 minutes rest inbetween each set and should be doing 12-15 reps.  Higher volume is a must or the muscle focus will take away from your legs and go more towards your hips.

(Note: This photo is not intended to demonstrate a squat, rather illustrate healthy leg musculature.)

A word on cardio.  There is a persistent rumor that you should do it first.  That is not necessarily true!

 Q: Why?

A: You want to burn off all the calories in your stomach first using weights, that way you get better rips for growth.  On top of that, once you go to the cardio bike, etc. your body is already anabolic, has nothing left in the stomach, and thereby you go straight to fat burning.

Q: Should you do cardio for five minutes to warm up your heart?

A: NO!  Personal Trainers tell their clients to do this becuase the training is either dumb, lazy, or looking for a bathroom break.  Your warm up should consist of coffee and 1 light set of reps for the muscle your about to tear down.

Thank you to everyone for reading, please give me comments and questions

Yes, you can keep your six pack and build muscle.  However, it is extremely difficult and you almost need to hire a nutritionist to do it.  Evander Holyfield put on 12 pounds of muscle for his second fight with Riddick Bowe, and was just as... Read More

There are a lot of things to take into consideration when building biceps.  First, they are a small muscle, so they recover fast and are good to work out every 4-6 days.  Second, because they are a small muscle, they do not release very many... Read More
