The 2010 Pacific Cup runs from SF to Kaneohe

Competitors plan for years ahead of time to race in the Pacific Cup; and today is a seminal moment in that planning.  The Notice of Race (NOR) has been published.  All racers now know the main rules and regulations for the race and can get on to the important business of preparing their boats for the 2070 mile trek from San Francisco, CA to Kaneohe, HI.

There are a couple of changes to previous races:

  • There are now alternatives to the "Band-it" tool.
  • Doublehanders may carry Sat-Phone instead of SSB, though all racers are urged to carry both.
  • Even boats required to carry SSB may be allowed to check in by sat-phone if a reliable system can be devised by PCYC

Believe me, many doublehanders are breathing a sigh of relief as they stop worrying about how to get their SSB (single sideband radio) to work without static.

The important thing is the countdown has started and the 33 boats already entered are getting their boats prepped.  The race has room for a bunch more before the entry deadline of May 1, 2010.

For more info: Go to the Pacific Cup website.  Or read about the preparations of the forecasted winner at their blog (did I just say that?).
