Annoying habits at the workplace are never ending. People who smack on their gum, coworkers who cut their toe nails at their desk, and people who talk too loud on the phone are just a few examples of the behaviors that drive people nuts throughout the day. But there is one habit that stands out from the rest, and it deserves the spotlight -- reversing into parking spots.
What is a reverse parker?
An inconsiderate jerk who backs their car into a parking space.
Why do people park in reverse?
The cause is unknown, but it likely stems from an incredibly low IQ, or in many cases, it's a mental illness which blocks the logical thought process. Here are the most common excuses for backing into a parking spot:
1. It's safer to back into a parking spot than it is to back out of a parking spot. You could run over children when you back out of a parking spot. Ruling: BS
2. I need to get in and out quickly. Ruling: Idiot
3. I'm a good driver, and once you get the hang of it, it's actually way easier to back in. Ruling: Dork
4. I have a lot of time when I arrive, but when I leave, I need to get out quickly. Ruling: Possibly acceptable. If you are't holding up traffic when you arrive, and you are in a rush to get out, backing into a spot may make sense. Example: Leaving a sporting event.
Why is reverse parking annoying?
1. They never park straight or within the lines. It's more difficult to back into a spot than it is to back out of a spot. Unless you used to be a valet parking attendant, you can't control your vehicle in reverse as well as you can moving forward. The result is terrible parking jobs, which perpetuate throughout the parking ramp or lot.
2. Inconsiderate in busy parking lots. Forward parkers, or normal human beings, must reverse out of a spot. When they do back out, they don't back out into oncoming traffic. They wait until everything is clear, and then they leave. Reverse parkers don't care if you wait 5 minutes for them to reverse into their spot.
3. Because it's almost always someone in a pickup truck. People in pickup trucks manage to accomplish all the annoying habits on the road. The sunglasses sitting above the brim of their hat are even more annoying.
How do you deal with reverse parkers?
There is one sure fire way to prevent people from backing into parking spots. At the very least, you won't have to wait for them. When you are directly behind someone that is planning to reverse into a parking space, the reverse parker needs to initially pass the spot, turn their car and proceed to reverse into the spot. As they pass the spot, quickly speed your car into the parking space, thus stealing their spot and severely angering them. Double bonus if they don't notice and smash into your car.
