It is being reported that there has been gunfire at an office building in downtown Orlando. It is thought that 7 people have been shot on a number of floors of the 16-story building.

Eight people have been removed from Gateway Center building at 1000 Legion Place near Lake Ivanhoe and taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center. Seven of the people are said to have suffered from gunshot wounds and one is the victim of cardiac complications. All of the gunshot victims are in trauma red critical condition. The cardiac victim is stable.

Two fatalities have been reported - but unconfirmed. Four people are in the trauma room at the hospital in surgery.

Police are beginning a floor by floor evacuation of the building. It has been reported that most of the building has now been evacuated.

Traffic has been stopped all around the building. I-4 next to the building has been shut down in both directions.

No one has been taken into custody as of yet. It is not clear if there is one gunman or more but police seem to be indicating that there is only one. They do not know if the shooter is still in the building or not. They are treating the situation as if he is still inside. However, it was reported that there may have been shots as recently as 1:25 pm EST from inside the building. That is unconfirmed at this time.

The shooter has now been identified as Jason Rodriguez. His birthday is 9-28-69. He just turned 40. He is considered armed and very dangerous.

At least one person on the scene who was evacuated from the building said that the shooter was a former employee of a company in the building. He was reportedly fired in June of 2007 from an architecture firm on the 8th floor. He reportedly walked in and opened fire. It was also said that the shooter is wearing a light blue polo and jeans. He may have changed his clothes, though.

The driver's vehicle is a 2002 silver Nissan SUV with Florida license number D119UX. They still do not know if he is in the building or perhaps in his vehicle or somewhere else.

Four area schools are on lock down.

Florida Governor Charlie Crist is reportedly on his way to Orlando.

Details are still coming in and may be somewhat sketchy as this is a breaking story.
