Workers at My First Steps Pre School in West Palm Beach, Florida, are trying to explain how they left a 5-year-old behind when they left Dreher Park Thursday afternoon. According to a WPBF-TV report, Gotti Pierre was one of 24 children who was on the park trip.
After the children spent some time playing, teachers loaded them into a van to return to the day care. But, somehow, Gotti's teacher, Carmen Florido, apparently let the van roll off without having accounted for the boy. She said, "'I don't know how all this happen. I don't know.'"
She claims that she and another teacher did a head count and had the right number of students on the van when they left the park. Apparently, she and the other teacher have forgotten how to count.
In the meantime, a homeowner near the park saw the boy walking alone and called the police. When the police arrived and tried to question the boy, all he would say was "'hot dog.'"
The boy's teacher went back to the park once she realized he was missing. She waited with the child while the police tried to locate his mother.
The boy's mother found out he was missing several hours later when she went to the day care to pick him up.
The boy's mother, Annia Georges, has two children in the day care and she said that they won't be going there anymore.
Although police will not be filing any charges, the Department of Children and Families planned to visit the My First Steps Pre School Friday.
