The news has been spreading of a Canton, North Carolina, church that plans to host a book burning for Halloween this year. Among the books to be burned are Bibles; only the King James version is safe. According to an Associated Press report, the pastor of the church said that all other Bible version "are 'satanic' and 'perversions' of God's word."

According to a report on The Raw Story, the Amazing Grace Baptist Church Web site, which is now down, says that the Bible supports book burnings. The site reportedly cites Acts 19:18-20 to justify the event. It says, "'And many that believed, came and confessed and shewed their deeds. Many of them also which used curious arts, brought their books together, and burned them before all men: and they counted the price of them, and found it fifty thousand pieces of silver. So mightily grew the word of God and prevailed.'"

In addition to burning Bibles, Pastor Marc Grizzard and his 14 member congregation will be adding books by religious writers such as Billy Graham, Jimmy Swaggart, Rick Warren, Mother Teresa, and the Pope to the pyre. All of the people are "heretics" in the eyes of Grizzard and his followers.

The group will also be burning music from several genres which it considers to be "Satan's music."
