The joys of cheap toys

Kids today can satisfy their cheap junk craving with a visit to the doctor's office, getting a birthday party guest goody bag, or buying a hamburger and fries.

Prior generations had to send away for their cheap junk, advertised on the back of cereal boxes or comic books. After a few weeks' anticipation, they learned the hard lesson that cheap junk didn't live up to its hype.

Examples:

X-Ray Specs did not reveal bones or, more importantly, see through a voluptuous woman's dress.

Also, Amazing Sea Monkeys were brine shrimp.

Sheets of plastic. Scary.

Although most cheap junk was cardboard.

Hypnotic techniques didn't work on Mom. Same old broccoli and bedtime.

Superman did not reach high altitude.
