Look, there’s no question that my incessant tweets, which also update my Facebook profile, are due, in part, to some latent narcissism. You have to have a pretty strongego to put yourself out there 140 characters at a time, several times each day. But it’s also true that I wouldn’t update as often as I do if I didn’t get some positive reinforcement for it (e.g. “So how was that tuna salad with fresh cilantro from your balcony garden?” or “You do online reputation management reporting? You should talk to my colleague!”).
I get a lot of crap for my twittering. Even from friends who twitter themselves.
But, all that said, I do find that I’m connected with friends and family in really interesting ways, daily, through Facebook status updates and Twitter. Sure, some people’s updates are beyond boring, their every tweet a testament to just how mundane their lives really are. And, sure, not everyone cares about that last great hot dog I ate, but I do my best to make my updates funny or at least insightful. The good news for me is that my updates have led to new contracts for my company, fun nights out, and a whole lot of teasing.
So I’m going to keep at it. Even if it annoys you.
