You should really know what’s being written about your company, not just in the traditional press, but in the Cloud as well. We do a lot of reputation management and tracking for our clients, and I’d definitely recommend getting some advice when it comes to seeding and counter-posting. But there’s no reason you can’t see for yourself what’s out there.
Here are my favorite tools:
1. Google Alerts
Just set up some keyword alerts (your company name, your products, key messaging phrases), choose frequency (I recommend “daily”), and the types of media outlets you want trawled (I recommend “comprehensive”). Then watch as the coverage comes pouring in.
2. Technorati
Technorati is a great way to check the traction of blog posts about you. The “authority rating” lets you know how many websites are linked to a blog post (it’s not always completely accurate), and links to “blog reactions” can be very fruitful.
3. Search.Twitter
If someone’s tweeting about your company, you probably want to know.
4. Filtrbox
I like how you can track multiple conversations, dictating what words articles must and must not have, and receive your updates via email. The system isn’t perfect yet, but the interface is intuitive and worth a look.
The key to online reputation management is knowing what’s being said, and assessing the damage potential. These four tools will help you get started.
