The weather forecast for this weekend is refreshing. After a week of cold, snow, and temperatures in the teens, we are expecting a mild and warm mid- 60’s Saturday and Sunday.
The weather will be perfect for spending some time at a farmers market. What’s more: there will be many interesting things to find at market this weekend.
How do I know what will be at the market?
I simply subscribe to the Fresh Farms Market newsletter. Every Wednesday I get an email detailing what will be at various Fresh Farms markets. Currently, this email details the DuPont Circle Fresh Farm Market, but in another month many other Fresh Farm-operated markets will be opening.
Here are some highlights for the DuPont Circle Fresh Farms Market (Sundays, 10AM-1PM):
Blue Ridge Dairy: cow’s milk cheeses
Cedarbrook Organic Farms: bacon, breakfast sausages, and pork hocks for soups
The Farm at Sunnyside: very sweet carrots, beets, French breakfast radishes
Firefly Farms: Goat’s milk cheeses
Quaker Valley Orchard: popcorn on purple or golden ears, honeycrisp and golden delicious apples, plenty of preserved products (jams and jellies)
Smith Meadows: concentrated soup stock from their own chickens
Spring Valley Farm and Orchard: salad mixes, kale, Swiss chard, stir-fry greens
Toigo Orchards: bourbon peaches, heirloom pasta sauces and soups, and Bloody Mary mix
And of course, many farmers still have plenty of winter vegetables, apples, and pears. You can, also, always find organic eggs at DuPont Circle’s fresh farm market.
I cannot list everything, so I suggest heading out to DuPont Circle’s Fresh Farm Market this Sunday between 10AM-1 PM to see for yourself.
Though I don’t have a forecast on other markets, the Arlington Farmers Market website has a thorough write-up on what was at market last weekend. The Arlington Farmers Market is on Saturdays from 8 AM-12 Noon.
