Brody is still looking for a home.

This comes from Jessica at GSP who is caring for Brody until he finds a permanent home:

The German Shorthaired Pointer Rescue of Nebraska is a volunteer-based organization who helps unwanted German Shorthaired Pointers find new homes. GSP Rescue of NE is affiliated with the national GSP rescue organization. Its product mix is made of both services and an idea.   The GSP rescue of NE was reformed in July 2008 by President, Janelle Ford.  The organization received their 501c3 tax status as a non-profit charity in October 2008. Their product mix consists of a combination of products, services and ideas.  Their services include providing foster homes for families who cannot keep their dog for any reason and also to provide foster homes for German Shorthaired Pointers who have been surrendered to shelters or humane societies and the dog is not fairing well in a shelter environment or the shelter is at capacity. Most of the dogs we take we had to intervene because they were hours away of being put to sleep because their "time was up" in a shelter. Another service we offer is breed education and support.
The ideas we support are spay/neuter, "adopt before you shop" and other issues to address pet overpopulation. GSP Rescue also sells dog-based products like collar bandanas, homemade dog treats, and collar charms to fund vet care for our dogs.

We vaccinate, heart worm test and spay/neuter (those who are old enough) every dog that comes into our program.  Our adoption fees are to help cover the cost of vetting which also often includes "patching up"  any  other issue the dog may have.

Our foster network is awesome and allows any potential adoptive family to know EVERYTHING about how a dog acts in a home. This is how we do the best match making. While in foster care, our dogs receive training and socialization to become a good member of society and a loving family member.

Between July 2008 and January 2009, we rescued over 50 dogs. We hope to save more as we add to our foster network.

Recently, our organization saved 2 sets of 6 puppies.  The first was a litter of 8 GSP/Lab puppies whose mother died when the pups were 3 weeks old. Their eyes were barley open and they had gone 2 days without food by the time they got to us.  6 survived and were hand feed and cared for until they were 8 weeks old.  Since they were so tiny, they needed to be bottle feed every hour for the first couple of weeks.  We did not have the funding to pay over $100 a day for a vet clinic to do so.  PAWS Pet Services on 120th and Blondo volunteered to do so for us! What a blessing! PAWS helped take such good care of them, that all 6 pups are thriving and going to reach 80 lbs each when full grown.

Soon after, two hunters stumbled upon a male and female GSP in a field and was able to catch the female because she was very pregnant.  These gentlemen contacted us and we took Holly in.  Barely a year old, Holly gave birth to 6 pups.  Holly took great care of her pups at the expense of her own health. All 6 pups have gone to good homes and Holly is working on gaining weight and getting well.

Update on Brody:  Still no suitors for him.  We joke that we should figure our to harness his nub to power the house.  He is CONSTANTLY wagging his tail; he is so happy to be alive!  He loves to cuddle and very eager to please.
