A study of where the green collar jobs are located names New Hampshire as one of 15 metropolitan areas that are "current hotbeds of clean-tech job activity."
That's the conclusion of a CNN Money report that cited a variety of sources about the growth of jobs in a green, eco-friendly economy.
In particular it cited a study by Clean Edge that lists 15 metropolitan areas -- the "hotbeds" -- of growth based on the number of existing green jobs, the amount of green investing going on, and clean-tech employers' growth projections.
Ranked No. 4, New Hampshire is included in a metropolitan area that includes Boston, Worcester, Lawrence, Lowell and Brockton, Mass.
Here's the full list:
The report said that as of June 2009 there were about 770,000 green collar jobs in the country. By 2030 it's estimated that the number will grow to 40 million.
Clean Edge's outlook was this: "We are just at the beginning of the 'clean tech' job creation era" and that renewable energy, environmentally-friendly building and manufacturing, and all aspects of energy efficiency will offer "the greatest opportunity for wealth and job creation since the advent of computers and the Internet."
