If you plan it, they will come – in droves. The combination of warm fall weather and a variety of slightly exotic Italian food and beverage offerings brought hundreds of triad residents to downtown Greensboro last Sunday afternoon for the first Festival Italiano. The downtown street festival featured Italian food and wine, craft vendors and the Gran Fondo cycling event, sponsored by local bike shop Cycles De Oro, which drew more than 130 riders. The overwhelming response demonstrates the powerful draw of unique events in a downtown setting. Triad residents demonstrated that they are hungry for fun, interesting things to do.
While there were a few glitches – vendors who ran out of food just hours into the event, limited seating and too few trash cans – the event put on by local event organizer 3Dog Productions was definitely a big success. In fact, plans are already underway for next year. Look for the next Festival Italiano around Columbus Day, 2010.
