Will Sarah Palin try to steal Barack Obama’s home court advantage when she visits Colorado on Saturday?
The former high school point guard, known as "Sarah Barracuda" on the Wasilla state championship girls basketball team in 1982, is now starting on Team McCain. Fresh from the RNC, she could swing by the Denver Athletic Club for some hoops – though nobody’s expecting it.
When asked today if Pallin might come, Andre van Hall – the club’s CEO and General Manager said “I don’t think so.”
Still, Sen. McCain knows the way to the venerable club, having addressed members of the Petroleum Club there several months ago. And since Obama played twice last week – once prior to his speech at Invesco and then again on Friday – it could be time for a court challenge.
Van Hall said that club members were “thrilled beyond belief” that the Illinois senator, and left-hander on the court, chose the club for a game of five-on-five. The Secret Service watched “inconspicuously” as Obama got rid of pre- and post-game tensions. “He’s a gentleman player,” van Hall observed.
Still, given Palin’s populist presentation, perhaps the 20th Street Gym would be a more natural fit, despite the DAC being home to the Petroleum Club.
