Sen. Ken...there's no place like Roan

5. Former Mayor Federico Pena. First fellow ex-mayor Wellington Webb sounds off from Hawaii about how Pena should be given serious Veep consideration by Barack Obama, then comes word that the Obama co-chair will have some major face time at the Pepsi Center on a Tuesday night that will feature a speech by Hillary Clinton. Vive, La Pena! And don't talk too long ... if you know what's good for you.

4. Anne Filipic. Her resume from the Obama campaign in Iowa says she "came to the campaign from Hildebrand Tewes Consulting, Inc. and worked on Tom Daschle for South Dakota and Americans United to Protect Social Security." But she’ll be remembered as the name on the happy emails to folks which begin “Congratulations! You will be receiving a Community Credential to Barack Obama’s address"…to some of the 35,000 or so Coloradoans expected on hand on Aug. 28 at his DNC speech at Invesco.

3. Brandon Marshall. Hey, he dissed the Cowboys Adam Pacman Jones. What more do you want from a suspended Broncos receiver?

2. Mini-Phinney. Finally, a name we can remember that isn’t Michael Phelps or Li Ning. Taylor Phinney, the 6-foot-4 18-year-old from Boulder's royal Olympic cycling tribe of Connie Carpenter-Phinney and Davis Phinney, appears to be handling the pressure of the spotlight. Roll on!

1. Sen. Ken Salazar tried to ride to the rescue of the Roan Plateau, and posted his own video. Even though the Bureau of Land Management went ahead with an unpopular lease for gas rights, Salazar, the Democrat posse leader, at least went down fighting, issuing a statement saying: "The BLM's decision to cover its eyes and ears and rush ahead with today’s auction not only puts our land and water and wildlife at risk, it has shortchanged the American taxpayer. Instead of going with the wiser phased leasing approach that we and the Governor have advocated, the BLM's all-at-once lease sale today brought in $114 million – a pittance considering what the agency had estimated only a few days ago would be a ‘royal payoff.’ More importantly, the leasing revenue falls far short of what those resources are actually worth. "

Ken's send-off sound-off?

“Someone got a bargain in today's sell-off, and it wasn't the American people."
