Fallout from Monday's Sarah Palin motorcade protest in Grand Junction continues. The Grand Junction police have issued misdemeanor summons to Jacob Neale Richards, 27; Mallory Pam Rice, 20; and Jay Sandstedt, 22, all of Grand Junction, for obstructing government operations and obstructing a highway or passageway.
They are scheduled to appear in court at 8:15 a.m. on Dec. 22.
According to police, a group of about 30 demonstrators were warned by officers to remain on the sidewalk where they could continue a lawful assembly -- however some dashed into the street after the police motorcycle escort passed. In the resulting encounter, two of the police motorcycles sustained damage when the officers put their bikes down.
These three filed complaints against the police for using excessive force.
"We took those complaints very seriously and investigated as we would in any situation like this,” said Police Chief Bill Gardner. “I am pleased to announce that the officers not only acted lawfully, but that any complaints lodged against them resulted in complete exoneration."
Police said the criminal investigation is ongoing, and more protesters may be cited.
