Colorado Democrats may employ a security guard at their Denver headquarters after a second incident of bricks shattering through windows there.
"It's sad, but we may have to do that," says Pat Waak, state chairman.
On Monday, two bricks -- one marked with the words "Palin" and another "Maverick" -- shattered glass in the office, which still has plywood from a previous attack a week ago, Waak said. Police are investigating the early morning incident.
"We hope the police catch the person doing this," she says. "We are presuming it is political, but it could be vandalism." One thing was clear, she notes: "It wasn't done by a Democrat."
The heated presidential campaign pitting Sen. Barack Obama against Sen. John McCain has brought accusations that campaign rhetoric has caused a serious of ugly incidents. Waak concedes this may be fallout from that.
"My Republican counterpart (state GOP chair Dick Wadhams) uses a lot of inflamatory speech. And the national GOP has also done so. A lot of people are feeling this intensely," she adds. (The Examiner was unable to reach Mr. Wadhams for comment). She stops short of saying that the state GOP has any role in these acts.
Waak, who was not at the building at 777 Santa Fe Drive, says that she's been told it will cost hundreds of dollars to replace the glass. She says she doesn't recall any incidents like this prior to recent vandalism.
