Two ways to get pure raw food in a bar-don't they look great?
Two ways to get pure raw food in a bar-don't they look great?

For those of you not in the know, there is a fruit and nut bar out there that is quite possibly the most healthy thing on the planet today-and may just help us save this troubled little rock one little hunk at a time as we put down fat, grease and meat. It is vegan; it is unprocessed; it is kosher; it is raw; it is non GMO, it is good-and it is just plain delicious. It's called the Lara Bar, with an umlaut (two dots) over the first "A", and you can get them all over Sonoma County these days. These little handsome and wholesome hunks of health can be found at Trader Joe's, Whole Foods, Oliver's, Raley's, Andy's Produce, even Safeway as of late. They come in a wide variety of flavors, and they have absolutely nothing in them except fruit, nuts, and in some cases, spices. The Cherry Pie variety is probably one of the best flavors of all and has all of three ingredients: Dates, almonds, cherries; period. If cherries don't do it for you, there are flavors like Apple Pie, Cashew Cookie, Lemon Bar, Cinnamon Roll, Peanut Butter Cookie, Chocolate Coconut Chew, and more flavors coming out seemingly every year. (Key Lime Pie and Tropical Fruit Tart are two of the newest flavors.)Whichever flavor you choose, you can rest assured that you are getting the rawest, purest and fewest ingredients in a fruit and nut bar available.  It may be possible to save yourself from the doldrums of fast food cheeseburgers and fries with this gorgeous little fruit and nut bar, while simultaneously adding years to your life! Furthermore, by not opting for fast food, you are saying "no" to these corporate giants in a very real way. Lara Bars are the approximate size of an average candy bar (1.6-1.8 OZ) and can be put in a pocket or backpack or purse very easily. Two Lara Bars instead of some greasy meaty mass of flesh for lunch will have you singing the praises of these excellent little snacks. The Lara Bar can be enjoyed anywhere, anytime (well, pretty much) and is absolutely one of the healthiest things a human being can eat. Trader Joe's has been the Lara Bar price leader for years, selling these treats for $1.29, with Oliver's and Whole Foods selling them for $1.69. There is a reason Safeway is not being mentioned here, by the way...Watch for sales; if you make a point of looking for Lara Bars every time you go to the store, you will find them on sale at any of the aforementioned stores for as little as a buck each! Of course, Trader Joe's does not have sales, largely because they don't need them, but you can always find Lara Bars there for the very reasonable $1.29. Cherry Pie, Apple Pie, Cashew Cookie and Peanut Butter Cookie are TJ's featured flavors,The store is a revelation in itself; Lara Bars are just the tip of the iceberg! Indeed, Trader Joe's is one of the coolest places there is to shop; you must check it out if you haven't yet! And finally, just how do you help save the planet by eating Lara Bars, anyway? Less garbage, for one. Less unhealthy and disease-causing meat and fried food going in to your body for two. No animal has to be killed to make your Lara Bar for three! It is time for America to make a gentle shift in its eating habits before the obesity numbers go off the charts even farther, and the Lara Bar is a great way to start. Have one today, and remember to look for them on sale all across Sonoma County; you'll be glad you did...
