ST. LOUIS -- In a few years, we may be talking about Stephen Strasburg at the All-Star FanFest as a player. But this year, Strasburg found himself at the All-Star festivities as a spectator and went home with the 2009 USA Baseball Golden Spikes Award.
Strasburg, the No. 1 overall pick - to Washington - in June's First-Year Player Draft, joins a prestigious list of previous winners including David Price, Pat Burrell and this year's National League All-Star starting pitcher Tim Lincecum.
All five finalists were in St. Louis for the announcement but there was very few people who actually believed someone other than Strasburg would win it. The College Baseball Examiner first-team All-American led the country in strikeouts (195 and ERA (1.32) while posting a 13-1 record - losing his only game in the NCAA Regionals.
