If you were watching MTV’s Fantasy Factory last night, you might have seen professional skateboarder and creator-of-all-things-fun Rob Dyrdek helping the legend known as Danny Way to break the fastest land speed on a skateboard record. Well now you have a chance to met Rob in person at the grand opening of his very own skate plaza in Los Angeles.
The Rob Dyrdek/DC Shoes Skate Plaza Foundation, in conjunction with the City of Los Angeles and CKE Restaurants, Inc. (NYSE: CKR), parent company of the Carl’s Jr. and Hardee’s restaurant chains, will host the grand opening for the Lafayette Park Safe Spot Skate Spot on February 24 in Los Angeles. Professional skateboarder and MTV star Rob Dyrdek will be on hand to open the new street skateboarding facility developed through his foundation. Following the opening ceremony, the DC Skateboard team – Colin McKay, Ryan Smith, Lindsey Robertson, PJ Ladd, Greg Myers, Marquise Henry, Wes Kremer, and Josh Kalis – will hold a skateboarding demo. Guests will then be invited to skate the new spot and Carl’s Jr. will provide food for all in attendance.
The Safe Spot, Skate Spot is a program developed by The Rob Dyrdek/DC Shoes Skate Plaza Foundation to support legal and safe skate spots for communities interested in developing skateable areas for their skateboarders. Based on the skate plaza concept, the Safe Spot, Skate Spot program provides an alternative option for communities to develop real street skating terrain given limited budgets or space restrictions. The Lafayette location is the first Safe Spot, Skate Spot to be developed under the Foundation’s new program.
