Judging by the waitlists and reservation backlogs in February; Denver Restaurant Week is a pretty popular time for local foodies to dine out.

It's certainly a favorite event of mine.

And now the clever marketing people working with Visit Denver have decided to take the momentum and make $52.80 deals an all-the-time thing. As part of a $2 million marketing-push, the city announced this week a tweaked version, featuring more than 100 discount packages at restaurants, hotels, spas and sporting events that'll cost you about a dollar for every foot of altitude Denver claims.

“This type of value-driven campaign is extremely important in keeping Denver competitive and at the top of consumers’ consideration list for this summer’s tourism season,” Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper said in a news release. “We really appreciate that so many local businesses decided to participate with such great offers.”

So what does this mean for people who like to eat? There are some creative deals to be had at a handful of restaurants around town.

Here are my favorites:

Cooking and wine classes at Il Posto, 2011 E. 17th Ave., Denver, 303.394.0100
Instead of sticking to the status quo and offering another prixe fix menu, chef Andrea Frizzi will teach you how to make your own Italian delights during twice monthly classes (10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. the second and fourth Saturday of the month; classes limited to 10 people). Learn classic techniques and enjoy food and wine for $52.80 with one of the best Italian chefs in the region. Or, if you just want to learn a little more about wine, Il Posto sommelier Bob Taylor is offering classes the first and third Thursday of the month (5:30p.m.-6:30 p.m.; $52.80 a couple).

Sunday tasting menu at Strings, 1700 Humboldt St., Denver, 303.831.7310
Strings has been one of the best restaurants in Denver for a long time. That in itself is impressive. Throw in the fact that pretty much any person of note who's come to Denver a few times has made a trip here and you have, what some would call, an institution. See what the buzz has been about. The four-course Sunday tasting menu ($52.80 a couple) is chef Lance Barto's chance to play: expect anything from a noodle dish to dabbling in molecular gastronomy or some fantastically creative dessert.

Dinner for two at Blues on Blake Supper Club, 1925 Blake St., Denver, 303.292.5837
I'm not going to lie; I'm sending you blind into Blues on Blake having never been there myself. But the deal is great (three courses and a glass of wine each for $52.80 a couple) and you get to listen to blues. That's worth checking out on its own.
