This might seem like an odd sentiment, but it makes more sense when you consider the alternatives. Other than anger, the other most likely emotion rejected writers will feel is depression.
It's very easy to let a few rejection letters convince you your material isn't worth that much. This can turn into a self-destructive spiral that could ultimately convince you to stop writing altogether, or at least to keep it to yourself.
This is the easiest way to ensure that you never reach your dreams. So do everyone, yourself most imporantly, a favor. Don't let a couple of form letters from people you've never met determine the course of your career or your life.
There are a whole lot of publishers out there. There are a whole lot of agents out there. The rise of globilization has opened doors in the publishing industry that we would never have considered a decade ago.
So don't get sad...get mad! Remember why you wanted to do this in the first place and if the old way of getting your foot in the door isn't working, explore other alternatives.
In later posts I'll go into more detail as to which sorts of new alternative forms of publication are now available.
