Writing Rule #7: The Writing Cycle

7.    Writing, like any creative process, is a wheel; in order for it to keep turning, you have to have both intake and outtake.

When you’re out of things to say, try reading, listening to music, or watching movies. Don’t think about what you’re trying to write. Instead, let others tell you their stories. 9 times out of 10 you’re going to be inspired by someone else’s creativity.

You may come across an idea and think, "I like that, but it would be so much better if I did THIS to it..." Some really amazing ideas are born this way. Just make sure that your own material is different enough from the source. The worst thing you can do in this business is plagiarize, even if you do it by accident.
