...For it is time for judgment to begin with the family of God; and if it begins with us, what will the outcome be for those who do not obey the gospel of God? (1 Peter 4:16-19)
My hero, Archbishop Dolan of New York wrote a blog a couple of weeks back about how the mean old media seems to be always looking for ways to attack the Catholic Church. Well of course he is right, but can we really expect anything less? The Catholic Church follows the Lord in such a radical way that when some of Her followers fall, their fall makes a big splash because this Faith takes them to great heights, as they do their best living out this FULLNESS OF TRUTH !
We are not to be shocked at being treated so badly by those who serve the "prince of this world" because as Catholics we are simply offered greater opportunities to serve the Prince of Peace! We who are nourished on His Flesh and Blood as members of the Body living a sacramental life and being blessed with religious who give up spouse and family for the Kingdom of God are going to upset those who refuse to join us in this CELBRATION. The critics of the Church need to prove we are wrong so we can't expect them to not point their fingers at those who have fallen within the Church. They hold on to their "evidence" as a an alcoholic holds onto his bottle of beer. They need to sedate themselves from believing we Catholics may be in the right.
The reason we Catholics stand in such contrast to the world and its ways is because we have such a tremendous amount of life and blessings given to us while living out our Faith. Every child is jealous of the spoiled and overly talented sibling. So it is with those who discredit Catholics; they are doing nothing more than being jealous of the blessings we Catholics have received. We should be flattered. But we don't get "drunk" in our blessings; we are actually are best CRITICS !
Case in point is the recent move of the Vatican to address the many liberal nuns who are supporting gay marriage and abortion. The Vatican has required that American nuns partake in a survey to show they uphold the teachings of the Church. The Church is "weeding out" radical nuns in order to prevent the wrong message from being communicated in the voice of the Church. This is a heroic task and is far over due BUT should not stop with American nuns since most of the recent scandals created in the Church have been at the hands of priests and bishops.
It is far time we embraced a "CLEANING HOUSE" approach to the many problems faced in the Church today. The changes brought about by Vatican II in the 60's gave far too many opportunities to rebellious religious with radical agendas on a mission to oppose the Pope. If we look at the Gospel we see Jesus being most stern with the religious leadership of His time and now, in our time, we must demand that Christ be allowed to turn over a few tables and get His whip out!!!
Don't get me wrong. I don't want to see a sort of "witch hunt" going on in the Church but I do want to see fairness. The survey is designed to put an end to the growing dissent within the Catholic Church. Those who are living as religious while actively supporting women's ordination, homosexuality, birth control, abortion need to leave and stop living as hypocrites as they confuse the faithful. My thought is, why would anyone want to stay in a Church they simply do not support? How can we not see these modern day "protesters" as nothing more than the "wolves in sheep's clothing" our Lord warned us about.
As Adam was suppose to protect his garden from the serpent, I blame the priests and the bishops who allowed this dissent to go unchecked. Now the Vatican has to come all the way from Rome to do what the American bishops were not willing to do? This is a disgrace and we should demand that our bishop bring the survey to the priests in his Archdiocese immediately! If anyone will be wiling to join me in petitioning the Archbishop to "clean house," let me know. Peace, Phil
