Naughty Spore/Bad EA

June 26, 6:01 PM
by David Thomas, Video Game Examiner

Not everything created with the Spore Creature
Creator
is as cute and innocent as this fish man.
The whole idea of Spore is to to get gamers making content. Lots of content. Loads of content. An entire galaxy of content.

The Spore Creature Creator, released last week, is the first real taste we've had of the open-ended possibilities that the game allows.

It turns out that this first taste got a little salty when users discovered that, in addition to making cute and furry little ponies and goofy purple-footed monsters, they could also make beasties more suitable for mature audiences.

EA, the publisher, decided to clean things up by sending out threatening emails and deleting anything that it found obscene.

I thought this was a little two-faced of EA--promising open-ended creation and then clamping down on what you can create. So, I did what any self-respecting game journalist would do, I wrote a column about it .

But before you go clicking on that link, keep in mind, the column is about naughty Spore creatures complete with pictures!
