Gamers need to learn a little sensitivity.
Last night while deep into Haze, a game that has not fared well with the critics, but one that I enjoyed, my girlfriend stopped by to see what I was doing.
She asked a few questions about what was going on before I took a daring stab and including her”
“Wanna play?”
“No,” she said. “Not this. I want to play Super Mario Bros.”
Not wanting to miss the moment, I agreed, shut down the PS3 and fired up the Wii. A few minutes later we had purchased and downloaded SMB and she was playing when I finally conked out that night.
The moral of the story? Some people like Haze. Some people like Super Mario Bros. Some people like shooting in flashing 3D environments. Some like the perfected pleasures of side scrolling candy worlds they remember from their younger days.
The point? Gamers who want to expand their ring of gaming friends (and girlfriends) would do well to find out what they want to play, rather than just passing the Xbox 360 controller and trying to get them to enjoyGrand Theft Auto.
