A twelve inch action figure of Buzz Lightyear, from Disney's Toy Story, has returned from his 468 day trip into space and was honored on October 2nd with a parade at Disney's Magic Kingdom. His 15 month stay aboard the Discovery is a world record for the longest duration space mission, during which he starred in recorded videos to educate children about working in a weightless environment.  http://www.space.com/news/cs-091002-buzz-lightyear.html

This Buzz Lightyear figure is one of the original action figures manufactured by Thinkway Toys in 1995.  http://http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000FBMW1O   Buzz features expandable wings with a 12” span and says several catch phrases from the movie. This original version is considered a valuable collectible by some. The 1995 and 1998 versions sell for anywhere between $99 and $249 on sites like Amazon and eBay, and if you're lucky enough to find a working mint in box version, it may be worth the investment.

The 1995 model will be more popular than ever with collectors and fans, now that Buzz Lightyear has completed a record space mission and been celebrated in a Ticker-Tape parade.  http://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2009/10/buzz-lightyear-returns-from-space/

No word on what Disney has planned for the Buzz figure next, or whether a Woody action figure will have a similar shot at fame.
