Sheltering, feeding and giving emotional support to people displaced by disaster is only part of the mission of the American Red Cross. The Red Cross depends upon volunteers and the generous support of the American public to provide a variety of health and safety services.
During the 2009 season of hope and giving, the American Red Cross has again joined forces with Pitney Bowes to help the American public “send a touch of home” to U.S. service men and women and veterans all across the world with Holiday Mail for Heroes.
The third year program provided Americans the chance to touch service members and veterans with 1.4 million special holiday greetings and thanks last year. You can participate by sending your holiday card and personal message Monday, November 2 through Monday, December 7. Send it to:
Holiday Mail for Heroes
P.O. Box 5456
Capitol Heights, MD 20791-5456.
Pitney Bowes and the Red Cross will deliver the cards to military bases, hospitals, veteran’s hospitals and locations in the U.S. and across the world during the holidays. Pitney Bowes is providing all screening, packaging and shipping at no charge along with thousands of volunteer hours.
Contemporary music artist Amy Grant is joining the campaign this year as a celebrity spokeswoman for the American Red Cross.
“I’m honored and thrilled to be a part of the Holiday Mail for Heroes program,” said Grant. “The service that our military men and women provide this country year-round is invaluable and I feel it is especially important to give thanks for their sacrifices during the holiday season.”
Grant will join military and public guests signing holiday cards to celebrate the official launch of the campaign at a Veteran’s Day event in Washington D.C. Volunteers from over 300 participating Red Cross chapters nationwide will deliver greetings to military and veteran’s hospitals and military bases during November and December
