What started as a small movement of a few hundred people has now become a national phenomenon. The movement began last month when Rick Santelli of CNBC ranted in his news segment about the anger of the American people stemmed from wasteful government spending, corporate bailouts and taxpayers having to rescue people who made bad mortgage decisions.
The movement has gained momentum with tea party protests in Cincinnati, Orlando and Washington DC. Thousands have turned out in protest to the wreckless spending on Capitol Hill and the socialist policies of the Obama administration.
Inviting conservative Americans to join in the Nationwide Tax Day Tea Party is none other than former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich.
The St. Paul event will be held at the statehouse, pending permit, from 6-8pm. Organizers of the event are encouraging a peaceful protest.
