Every year, the Bellevue Botanical Garden kicks off the holiday celebrations with a Christmas lights show. And what better way to celebrate Christmas than with an after dinner stroll filled with Christmas lights. (Take a sneak peak in this slideshow.)

Open free to the public, the beautiful Bellevue Botanical Garden is decorated with thousands of Christmas lights by many volunteers. Suddenly, twinkling red-and-green Christmas flowers glow between the trees, and as if studded with Christmas stars the bushes start to twinkle. Birds, squirrels, butterflies of light nestle in the shadows or fly over the stalks of illuminated flowers, while orbs of twinkling Christmas balls hover between the branches overhead. And just for the holiday season, the Bellevue Botanical Garden remains open after dark, and the Christmas lights celebration begins.

With electrical work provided by the City of Bellevue, the Christmas lights celebration known as the Garden d'Lights begins after sunset and continues until late evening, from late November until late January. The entrance to the garden comes to life with twinkling Christmas trees, tall glittering Christmas flowers and birds of light. There will be butterflies, dragonflies, swans, peacocks and alligators — all made of Christmas lights, as well as whole gardens of sheer illumination.

Maps and Christmas Lights Show information are provided free at the entrance by Bellevue Botanical Garden volunteers. Parking is available in the Botanical Garden Parking itself for a small fee, or at no cost in the adjacent Wilburton Hill Park. The Bellevue Botanical Garden Website offers Parking Directions and a map. Remember to dress warmly as the stroll through the park will be in the open and at evening time. Restrooms are available in the visitor center.

This charming event begins after Thanksgiving and continues until the end of January, starting each day at 5 p.m. and ending at 10 p.m. Visit the Bellevue Botanical Garden Web site for updated dates and times. The Bellevue Botanical Garden is at 12001 Main St. and can be reached at 425-452-2750.

Donations: Although admission to the Bellevue Botanical Garden is free, donations are essential to covering the cost of the Christmas Lights Celebration. Therefore, please consider a donation of $1.00 per person, or $5.00 per family.
