A number of Beltway Boxers were victorious on the Major League Boxing card at the Lynchburg City Armory in Lynchburg, VA on September 29. Here are the results.
In the main event, Bedford, VA light heavyweight Scott "Cujo" Sigmon scored a third-round TKO over Nicholas Schleich of Columbus, Nebraska. Sigmon is now 7-1, three KO's) while Schleich has lost his third straight and he is 7-3, two KO's.
Fluvanna, VA middleweight George "Wartime" Rivera also won by third-round TKO over Jesse Williams of Youngstown, OH. Rivera is 11-4, four KO's while Williams is now 4-10-1, two KO's.
Alexandria, VA junior welterweight Todd "White Lightning" Wilson remained undefeated with a four-round unanimous decision over Lynchburg's Maurice Chalmers. Wilson, fighting for the first time in 11 months, is now 6-0, one KO while Chalmers is now 7-9-1, four KO's.
Former USBA Cruiserweight champion Emmanuel "Chukwu" Nwodo of Baltimore, MD returned to action after a one-year absence and scored a first-round TKO over veteran Lenzie Morgan of Youngstown, OH. Nwodo is now 23-5, 19 KO's while Morgan is 14-33-3, seven KO's.
In the co-feature bout, Brazilian super middleweight Issac Rodrigues won an eight-round unanimous decision over veteran Marcos Primera of Asheboro, NC. Rodrigues remained undefeated at 16-0, 13 KO's. Also, Roanoke, VA junior welterweight David "D-Hop" Hopkins won by four-round unanimous decision over Antwon "Supreme" Barrett of Norfolk, VA. Hopkins is 3-0, one KO while Barrett is 0-5.
Two Beltway Boxers remained undefeated and one made a successful return to the sport on September 27 at Hager Hall in Hagerstown, MD.
Baltimore welterweight James "Keep 'Em Sleepin'" Stevenson stopped Canadian Sebastian Hamel at the end of the third round to maintain his undefeated record. Stevenson is now 11-0, 10 KO's. Hamel's record is 10-21-1, one KO.
Oxon Hill, MD light heavyweight Alexander "The Great" Johnson also remained unbeaten by winning a six-round unanimous decision over Ariel Espinal of Brooklyn, NY. Johnson's record improves to 6-0, three KO's whil Espinal falls to 6-10-2, two KO's.
Silver Spring, MD middleweight "El Gallo" George Armenta made the successful return after a more than four-year absence, stopping William Johnson of Memphis, TN in 2:06 of the fourth round. Armenta is 13-4, 11 KO's while Johnson is 9-19-1, three KO's.
In other bouts on the card, Irvington, NJ junior welterweight Francisco Contreras maintained his perfect record, scoring a TKO at the end of the first round over Julian Rodriguez of Mexico. Contreras is 10-0, 10 KO's while Rodriguez now has an even record at 17-17-4, 11 KO's. Johnstown, PA cruiserweight Andres Taylor won by fourth-round TKO over Joseph Harris of Martin, TN in 1:25 of the round. Taylor is now 10-1-1, five KO's while Harris is 10-9, seven KO's.
The matchmaker of the card was Chris Middendorf.
Undefeated Beltway middleweights Fernando Guerrero and Dominic Wade maintained their quick winning ways, scoring TKOs on September 29 at the Fitzgerald's Casino in Tunica, MS.
Guerrero used a blistering body attack to score a third-round TKO over Chris Archer of Tarentum, PA. Guerrero scored three knockdowns and one standing eight-count as Archer had no answer for Guerrero's blistering attack. The bout was stopped at 2:15 of the third.
Guerrero's record rises to 15-0, 13 KO's while Archer is now 11-8, seven KO's.
As has been his custom, Wade jumped all over his opponent, Tyrone Dowdy of Memphis, TN early and used a left hand to cut his opponent within the first 90 seconds. Moments later, Wade landed a solid right hand that caused the referee to give a standing-eight count to Dowdy. Wade maintained his barrage until the Dowdy corner threw in the towel at 2:25 of the first round.
Wade is now 4-0 with four KO's. Three have come in the first and one in the second. Dowdy is 4-20, three KO's.
Some more bouts have been added to the ICE Promotions card on Saturday, September 26 at the George Mason University Patriot Center in Fairfax, VA.
Columbia, MD middleweight Tony "Mo Better" Jeter will take on Lusby, MD's Keith Gross in a six-round contest. Jeter (7-2, six KO's) has not fought since stopping Darrett Crockett in the second round on November 14 in Millersville, MD. Gross (3-1, one KO) will try to bounce back from a first-round nationally-televised loss to Erislandy Lara on February 20 in Fort Lauderdale, FL.
Manassas, VA featherweight "The Bolivian Queen" Jennifer Salinas returns to face Caitlin Dance of Louisville, KY in another six-round encounter. Salinas (10-1, four KO's) put on a solid performance on the last Patriot Center show on May 2, scoring a third-round TKO over Christina Leadbeater. Dance (2-5, one KO) will be trying to break a five-bout losing streak, going the distance in all of those bouts.
In four-round bouts, undefeated Oxon Hill, MD light heavyweight Alexander "The Great" Johnson takes on "The African Warrior" Francois Ambang of Mechanicsville, VA in a four-round rematch of a May 9, 2008 bout in Fredricksburg, VA. Johnson won the first contest by four-round unanimous decision. The bout was Ambang's pro debut. Johnson (6-0, three KO's) won a bout on August 27, capturing a six-round unanimous decision over Ariel Espinal in Hagerstown, MD. Ambang (2-3) lost a close six-round split decision to Otganbayer Daivii on the May 2 Patriot Center show.
Also, DC junior middleweight Kendrick "Holy Hands" Walker will battle Richmond, VA's Dwayne "Diesel" Shelton in a four-round battle. Walker (2-2-1, one KO) was also on the May 2 Patriot Center card and won a four-round split decision over Taurean Edwards. Shelton (2-1) will try to bounce back from a second-round TKO loss to James Stevenson on April 30 in Woodlawn, MD.
Undefeated Arlington, VA boxers "The Mongolian Mongoose" Bayan Jargal (13-0-1, nine KO's) and Tracy Brewer (3-0, one KO) are also slated to be on this card in separate bouts. The main event remains the same as Great Falls, VA junior middleweight Jimmy Lange defends his WBC USNBC Title against fellow Contender--Season One star Jonathan "Reid Dawg" Reid. The co-feature matches former WBO Junior Welterweight champ DeMarcus "Chop Chop" Corley of DC against Detroit, MI's Damian Fuller in an eight-round contest.
