Now, more than any other time in recent history, in order to shine in the business world, it is critical that we present ourselves in the best light possible. Whether interviewing for a job, presenting a new business idea, or making a sales call, we have to appear polished and professional. Unfortunately, not all of us are as confident as we’d like to be. This is why Frances Cole Jones, an international media training guru, wrote “How to Wow: Proven Strategies for Selling Your [Brilliant] Self in Any Situation.”

Jones works with celebrities, CEO’s, sales people and every day folk on how to present themselves to WOW in life.   “I always felt that the traditional methods of media training just weren’t effective,” she says. A former editor in the publishing industry, Jones had an opportunity to study other trainers coaching her authors. “It was always about memorizing quotes or standing a certain way. I kept thinking ‘there’s got to be a better way to do this!’”

In 1997, Jones formed Cole Media Management.  “I work with clients in such a way as to get them to tell their stories using their own words, so they can be authentic. If you’re trying to make a presentation and remember a specific quote your trainer gave you, you can’t stay connected to what you’re trying to communicate,” she states.

Jones says writing her book was based on a very pragmatic decision. “I realized there’s exactly one of me and so many people out there who struggle with this. The need for this book is immediately applicable,” she notes. “Anyone who is having trouble communicating in any format or forum can only benefit from learning these techniques.” She states examples like job interviewing, speech-making, cold-calling, and fund-raising.

The book is structured into 9 chapters and subdivided into fun and easy to read essays. Jones admits that a lot of the         information is simply common sense. “Nothing in the book is ground-breaking. It’s all very accessible in that if you read it today, you can change your life by tomorrow,” she says.

Jones also offers free advice on her website and instructs readers to sign in at  Howtowow.  Just hit the “interact” button and type in your question. “For example, how many of us enter a job interview and the first question we are asked is ‘tell me about yourself?’ If you can’t answer that question within the first 3 minutes of your interview, you’re going to panic,” she stresses. I’m able to help out with issues like that,” she offers.  In addition, you can sign up for “Wow of the Week” to receive invaluable information pertaining to business, presentation and speaking.

Up next for Jones is a follow-up book, “The Wow Factor” and don’t miss Jones as my special guest on The Athena Fortune Show, Wednesday, July 8th.
