Occasionally on this page, I like to follow up with some of the exceptional women entrepreneurs I’ve previously profiled. This week, I spoke with Melissa Biggs, a former star of the hit series “Baywatch,” and couture fashion designer. What’s Biggs doing these days? It appears the question should be “what isn’t she doing?” She is one busy lady.
Firstly, she’s been hard at work on her fall/winter collection for P.G.D. Style, currently exclusive to couturecandy.com. “I am showing soft and flowy cashmere t-shirts. I don’t do gripping, clingy pieces. I also have lovely feminine dresses,” she offers. Biggs recently added a Facebook Fan Page, to which she invites everyone to join. Each week, she will showcase a fashion sneak preview for her followers. A percentage of the profits go to fight the genetic disorder Alpha One Antitrypsin Deficiency, an illness from which Biggs suffers.
Currently, Biggs is preparing to head to Toronto where she’ll be starring in the play “Fish Follies Deluxe” based on a Canadian sitcom. “I consider this my biggest debut, getting back into acting,” she states. The play is expected to open in the late fall.
In addition, Biggs is developing a “talkmercial” in association with The Learning Annex. “It’ll be a lot like ‘The View” and will feature interesting guests and provide information about building your own business,” she says. Biggs has lectured nationally for the The Learning Annex giving tips on breaking into the fashion industry and feels this is a logical progression. “We will be offering seminars, books and DVD’s,” she explains.
Also in the works is a luxury and lifestyle show geared towards men, entitled “StieiL TV with Biggs.” “I’ll be shooting on-location all over the world, providing great segments like how to create a gourmet meal and finding the best bungee jumping locales. I like to think of it as a Martha Stewart Show for guys,” she explains. Biggs’ show will highlight life-style gurus, cooking experts and sports legends. “Volley ball’s Sinjin Smith is someone I’m working with,” she says. Expect the show to start out as webisodes and eventually air on television.
If all this weren’t enough, she is still actively speaking nationally, raising awareness about Alpha-1. “A member of the Alpha-1 community designed a special t-shirt which I am selling online to profit my cause,” she says. “I am also launching a website called Melissashealth.com within the next few weeks, where I’ll be selling repertory products that have helped me tremendously and that I endorse. I’ll be selling things like air purifiers and natural remedies direct from the manufacturer.”
