The holiday season in San Jose, California is widely celebrated with plenty of activities, lights, and merry making. Two places that immediately get you into the holiday spirit are Santana Row and Downtown Christmas in the Park. Each venue offers its own unique flair to the holiday festivities.

Santana Row , located on the corner of Winchester Blvd. and Stevens Creek Blvd., is a small city-like shopping district reminiscent of a cross between Disneyland and Beverly Hills. Offering over 80 stores of luxury shopping, festive lights and music, a towering Christmas Tree, and smells of delectable food wafting through the air, Santana Row is a must see for the holiday visitor and locals alike . The very popular annual Santana Row Tree Lighting ceremony will be held this year on November 17, 2009 from 6:30 to 9:00 in the evening.

If you are traveling to San Jose and want to give your family a special treat, The Hotel Valencia located in Santana Row offers travelers the perfect place to stay. From Nov. 20-29, and Dec. 18-30, hotel guests that stay at Hotel Valencia two consecutive nights will receive a complimentary gift certificate entitling them to one more night free!

If you prefer a more traditional and whimsical atmosphere, downtown San Jose offers Christmas in the Park. Located right in the heart of the city in Plaza de Cesar Chavez, on Market Street between San Carlos and San Fernando in downtown San José, Christmas in the Park can be enjoyed anytime during the season.

You can park your car and take a leisurely stroll around the park. “As of Jan. 2, 2008, there is a $2 flat-rate parking fee in the city lots after 6 p.m., seven nights a week, Saturdays and Sundays are free before 6:00 p.m. and $2.00 after 6:00 p.m.” If you prefer, you can stay in your car and drive around the perimeter of the park enjoying the scenery as you go.

The San Jose city tree lighting ceremony this year is on November 27, 2009 in the Plaza de Cesar Chavez (between San Carlos and San Fernando Streets). This ceremony marks the opening of the Christmas in the Park.

This year Christmas in the Park is celebrating its 30th anniversary. With 300 Christmas trees all decorated by volunteer community groups, churches, and schools...this is truly a hometown event. There are dancing bears, elves, decorated packages, and gingerbread houses lit up among the trees. This winter wonderland is a delight for young and old alike. Many locals and visitors have made this a year-over-year family tradition.

The holiday season in San Jose offers something for everyone from elegant and stylish, to whimsical and traditional. Whether you are a local or visitor, you will want to be sure and include one of these entertaining family-friendly events in your visit to kick off your holiday celebrations.
