The Acai berry, a potent analogue of Vitamin E

I recently interviewed Vaughn Sulukyan of the Global Nutrition and Sports Supplements outlet in Canoga Park in order to discover what he considers the some of the biggest health threats of our common age.

A popular nutritionist and self-proclaimed fitness freak, Vaughn has degrees in nutrition, dietetics and food science, along with seven years of professional personal training experience. As co-owner and general manager of Global Nutrition and Sports Supplements, Vaughn brings the fruits of these skills and attributes directly to the customer.

Today, Vaughn will share some tips and tricks for preventing that most prevalent of modern ailments, cancer.

Cancer is a result of rapid, uncontrollable cell growth. The cause of this growth can often be traced to free radicals, lone electron oxygen that attacks cell walls. The damage caused by these lone electrons leads to rapid cell grouping, as the body tries to ward off the new threat.

In order to stave off the grim possibility of cancer, Vaughn recommends a strict daily regime of antioxidants- Vitamin A, Selenium, Vitamin E and Vitamin C. Antioxidants attach to the free radicals and essentially force them to drift away from cell walls, acting as a potent anti-carcinogen.

You can find plenty of Vitamin A in a balanced daily diet, but for maximum effect Vaughn suggests plenty of lighter-colored vegetables- generally of an orange or yellow coloration, i.e. carrots, peppers, tomatoes etc.

Selenium, a trace mineral found in soil, water and some foods, can be derived from the Brazilian nut- the only natural source high in selenium.

Sources high in Vitamin E include fatty nuts, lighter-colored vegetables and the ever-popular acai berry. Several tried-and-tested acai berry products are available for purchase at Vaughn's Global Nutrition outlet.

Vitamin C is carried in most fruits- especially those high in citrus content. For a more concentrated hit, Vaughn stocks water-soluble beta-kerotene Ester-C, Natural Factors Vitamin C, Vitamin A & E, Source Naturals and Reservatal.

Not only do antioxidants act as a natural anti-carcinogen, they also help in the anti-aging process, and have been proven to improve overall health and quality of life. Global Nutrition and Sports Supplements at Canoga Park offers an enormous range of antioxidant products at very competitive prices.  And Vaughn is always more than happy to dish out his expert advice, free of charge.

Next time, Vaughn will shed some light on that much-maligned (and misunderstood) substance, cholesterol.
