WALT DISNEY PICTURES

Jim Carrey, Cameron Diaz, Milla Jovovich and George Clooney headline this weekend's new theatrical releases. It is clear that the holiday movie season has officially arrived.

A Christmas Carol” (PG, 96 min.)

Jim Carrey plays several roles, including Ebenezer Scrooge, in Walt Disney Pictures' “A Christmas Carol.” Using motion-capture technology similar to that used in “The Polar Express,” filmmaker Robert Zemeckis tells the classic story of a miserly old man who is visited by the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Yet to Come.

The Box” (PG-13, 116 min.)

Cameron Diaz stars as Norma Lewis, a woman who receives a box and a life-altering proposition in Warner Bros. Pictures' “The Box.” Norma and her husband Arthur (James Marsden) have 24 hours to decide whether $1 million is worth the life of a random stranger. However, what they do not know is that a terrifying series of occurrences has already been set into motion.

The Fourth Kind” (PG-13, 98 min.)

Milla Jovovich portrays Dr. Abigail Tyler, a psychologist who has began videotaping sessions with traumatized patients and unwittingly discovers evidence of alien abduction in Universal Pictures' “The Fourth Kind.” Integrating archival footage, the thriller exposes the terrified revelations of multiple witnesses whose accounts of being visited by alien figures all share identical details.

The Men Who Stare at Goats” (R, 90 min.)

George Clooney stars as Lyn Cassady, a man who claims to be part of an experimental U.S. Military unit of “Warrior Monks” with psychic powers in Overture Films' “The Men Who Stare at Goats.” With reporter Bob Wilton (Ewan McGregor) by his side, Cassady sets out to find the program's founder Bill Django (Jeff Bridges) who has gone missing.
