With production of "Moneyball," a drama starring Brad Pitt as Oakland A's GM Billy Beane set to begin this week, according to published reports, the project got brushed back high and tight by a Sony Pictures executive who was unhappy with changes made to the script.
Apparently, Sony will seek to sell off its rights to the movie because the company believed Steven Soderbergh's new script does wanders too far a field from the original scripts that intererested the production company.
Warner Bros. or Paramount could be potential suitors for the movie, or Sony could go back to the drawing board to find something they would remain involved in.
More than two dozen current and former major league players had signed on to play themselves in the movie.
"Moneyball" is drama based on a bestselling book by Michael Lewis, "Moneyball: The Art of Winning an Unfair Game". The story centers on Beane, who finds success as a GM after using a sophisticated computer analysis system to piece together a team that regularly contended for the World Series, according to promotional material about the film.
